The standard requirement for admission is that the applicant be a high school graduate. Those who have not graduated from high school but who have satisfied such graduation requirements through the General Educational Development test or through an accredited home study course may also be considered for admission.
An individual who is beyond the age of compulsory education, lacks a high school diploma or its equivalent, and has the Ability to Benefit from training offered by IBC, may be admitted to the Office Support Specialist diploma program. The Ability to Benefit (ATB) will be determined by the Wonderlic admission’s test, and pre-entry advising. Individuals will test in English VS I and Math QS I and must score a 200 in English and a 210 in Math. Both tests must be passed in order to be accepted. Retests may be given 5 days after the first test using VS II for English and QS II for Math. Individuals not passing VSII and QS II must wait 60 days to retest.
All candidates for the Business Management, Pharmacy Technician and Computer Support Specialist programs will be required to pass the Wonderlic SLE IV admission’s test. Retests may be given 5 days after the first test using SLE V. A score of 17 is required on both versions. Individuals not passing SLE V must wait 60 days to retest.
Pharmacy Technician students will be required to register with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy as a pharmacy technician trainee and will have to register as a pharmacy technician within two years. They must also take and pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s National Certification Examination within two years in order to register as a pharmacy technician. A criminal background check, including fingerprints, will be conducted when they register.
The college does not require an applicant to have taken business subjects in high school. However, if a person has had previous business courses or experience, advanced standing may be granted.
Students are allowed to enroll one day after the scheduled start date. The Board of Directors may allow a student to enroll up to three days after the scheduled start date. Students enrolling after the start day must make up missed hours before the end of term.
All candidates for the associate degree are required to take the Accuplacer Exam. The following minimum standards shall be used by International Business College to determine the student’s readiness to enroll in associate degree programs: Reading Comprehension – 78, Elementary Algebra – 63, Sentence Skills – 80, and Written Essay – 6. Candidates not achieving these standards will be required to attend tutoring classes designed to increase the student’s likelihood of success during their first year in college.
